“Nítido” — 2025
Mural created for El Mero Muro at the Mexic-Arte Museum, on 5th Street and Congress Avenue in Downtown Austin.
Nítido is my tribute to the Dale Shine culture and to the Mexican and Mexican American shoe shiners who worked the streets of Austin, especially around Congress Avenue. Their work represented labor, pride, dignity, style, and survival.
The boot represents Austin, while the act of shining it becomes a metaphor for what artists do, we’re giving Austin a shine, bringing color, memory, and pride back onto the streets.
